After a suprise loss to Kei Nishikori on sunday, Roger Federer bounced back to defeat Dominic Thiem in straight sets and keep his ATP final hopes alive. He seemed more relaxed and vastly reduced his error count from the Nizhikori match. However the fiendishly complex posibilities for further advancement in the tournament mean that nothing is certain, win or lose in his next match, it may not affect his chances.

If Kei Nishikori beats Dominic Thiem with the required margin of games and sets then Federer is out, whether he wins his Kevin Anderson match or not.
